During the first day there will be presentations, opportunities to discuss and interact with the speakers as well as with the rest of the participants. During the second day, participants will be divided in small interdisciplinary groups and asked to write a 1 page elevator pitch for a key synthetic biology challenge. Then, each group will present its elevator pitch to the audience who will act as real-time reviewers thus helping to refine the message, identify problems and opportunities, etc. During the second part of the day, participants will extend the one page elevator pitch into a 3-page expression of interest that takes into account the feedback arising during the morning session. At the end of the workshop the material will be further discussed, annotated and ranked.
Speakers
- Prof. Cameron Alexander, University of Nottingham
- Prof. Fernando de la Cruz Calahorra, Cantabria University
- Prof. Luca Cardelli, Microsoft Research
- Dr. Natalio Krasnogor, University of Nottingham
- Dr. Brian Logan, University of Nottingham
- Prof. Phil Wright, Sheffield University

Participation
The total participation will be strictly limited to 30 applicants, approximately 15 of which will be selected speakers. Thus all participants are required to commit to stay and participate during the full duration of the workshop. SynBioNT will cover all the organisational, travel and subsistence expenses for all 30 participants.
As we intend the outcomes to be highly interdisciplinary project proposals, we aim to ensure an equal number of biologists, chemists and computer scientists.
Applications will be accepted up to the 25th September 2009 at the absolute latest on a first-come-first-served basis by sending an email application to the SynBioNT administrator Nicholas Poxon (nzp@cs.nott.ac.uk).
